I’m happy to finally unveil a project I’ve been working on for the last half year: a professionally narrated audiobook for Harpyness is Only Skin Deep.
As my first published novel, Harpyness holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve always wanted to do an audiobook of it.
The process started with narrator selection, and I’ll be honest, I was a bit skeptical if I could find a narrator that could pull off a convincing Darin and Rinloh. Though several excellent narrators auditioned for the project, Rachanee Lumayno amazed me both with her range of voices for the various characters, as well as the emotions she brought to the story. From Darin’s amazement about the strange new world he finds himself in, to Rinloh’s bewilderment at the absurdities of human culture, to their comforting one another in the direst of situations, Rachanee’s emotions really bring this story to life.
Such a big addition also warranted something else: a new cover! My current cover artist Papaya-Style, who illustrated Arvia: Heart of the Sky, brought her own unique style to the new audiobook cover, while paying homage to the spirit of the first cover. Print copies will continue to use the prior illustration, which featured a full wrap-around fantasy landscape extending to the back cover.
The audiobook will be available in over 40 worldwide outlets, including Spotify, Google Play, Apple, Kobo, Nook Audio, and many more. Listen to a preview on my youtube channel here.
Unassuming human Darin yearns with every fiber of his being to be that grand hero from countless books and games. When given the chance for a one-way trip to the fantastical world of Arvia, he quickly realizes he’s terrible at it. Yet the qualities he’s always undervalued—quick-wittedness and empathy—save his life when he encounters the ferocious harpy Rinloh.
Harpyness is Only Skin Deep is about friendships that defy all odds, laughing at the absurdities of life, and seeing the good in the worst monster in the realm.
Find your inner harpy, and let your imagination take flight!
